BA staff decision to strike defies logic
Given the parlous state of the travel industry, it defies any form of logic why BA staff have decided to strike when the only result can be to drive traffic to other airlines with a real danger that they will not come back.
BA in common with all major international airlines are fighting for their lives and if the staff cannot see they are risking their own futures and that of their company there is very little hope. If the proposed strkes take place and BA do not relent what next ? BA management have to respond to the £401 million loss recorded last year, especially with very little propect of the UK and world economy recovering in the short term. BA business proir to the recession was highly dependant upon business travel and they will have to learn to live with making smaller margins because the level of business travel will probaly never go back to previous levels.
The business world with the help of technology is learning to do away with face to face meetings or have moved to economy class for their travel. All this means BA's margins will do the same and they have to reduce operational costs to survive.
The staff obviously see this as an excuse to down scale their jobs and some middle ground will have to be found sooner rather than later.
For customers travelling with BA, we strongly recommend you pay the small fee to cover the cancellation of your airport parking or airport hotel parking up to 24 hours before departure. Charges for Gatwick parking or Heathrow hotel and parking for instance can be expensive and this will save the need to recover from Company or personal travel insurance which can be time consuming and certainly worth the fee.
