| News Archive | 1/06/2010 BA & Unite set for more talks BA and Unite are to hold more talks today to try and thrash out a deal, so the current strike can come to an end and avoid any more planned strikes. Though this looks unlikely as both sides are still standing firm and Unite leader Tony Woodley announced this week that he would hold further ballots for more strike action. As Unite carries out its second wave of strikes, BA insist they are managing better than last time and have re-introduced flights from Heathrow to JFK, this is due to more workers returning to work this time round.Heathrow has been the worst affected airport as it is BA largest base with an estimated 200+ flights being cancelled a day but that figure is thought to be improving. The current strike ends on 3rd June which by then will have no doubt caused many disruptions to family’s getting away during school half term, with the next strike due to start on the 5th June in the run up to the world cup many football fans could be left dissapointed The travel perks removed from striking BA staff are still the main sticking point to resolve, but Mr Woodley commented that BA was trying to starve its workers back to work and had no intention of reaching an agreement, stating they must stand up to BA’s bullying. |
