26/10/2010 Coventry Airport has new owners.
Sir Peter Rigby’s aviation group, Patriot Aerospace, now owns Coventry Airport. Sir Peter is a successful business man who founded the firm SCC (Specialist Computer Centres) and owns the luxury hotel chain Eden Hotel collection.
The Group aim to transform the airport into a commercial aviation hub, initially serving freight and business customers but plans for passenger flights will be considered in the future.
The aquisition of Coventry Airport will compliment the Group's other extensive business interests. Sir Peter commented that the purchase was the next step in the growth of patriot Aerospace and that he was looking forward to boosting local economy and providing facilities for the aviation business, as well as creating new jobs.
Leader of Coventry City Council, Ken Taylor said that having a local airport was important to the City and he was delighted to have been able to work with Sir Peter to ensure a long future.
The Airport is in the centre of the city and will provide a comprehensive air traffic service, including cargo, helicopters, and small aircraft.
Many existing businesses have had to cope with an uncertain future since last year, but can now look forward to a clearer future, due to the new ownership.
Sir Peter has a record that goes back a long way of investing in the West Midlands region where he is a major employer His luxury country hotel group, the Eden Collection, owns Mallory Court in Leamington Spa and has joined forces with the Royal Shakespeare Company , who later this year plan to re-open Stratford-Upon Avon’s Arden hotel.
