Construction Begins On New Car Park At Dublin Airport
Building work has begun at Dublin airport to create a new €14 million short-term car park to accommodate the new terminal 2 building which should be operational by November.
The new car park will create 1,000 Dublin airport parking spaces and 350 car hire spaces. There was originally a plan to build a 4 star hotel on top of the car park but these plans have been put on hold until passenger numbers have improved.
Protesters may argue that the airport already has 2,100 short term spaces and over 14,000 long term spaces and as passenger numbers are in decline the new car park was not needed
The contractor which is carrying out the work is Bowen Ltd and has already begun clearing the site and work has started on the foundations.
Currently there is a work force of 50 but that number is set to double once the frame for the car park is installed.
There will be separate access for Motorists to each terminal building and its corresponding car park once the new terminal is in operation with terminal 2 set to house Aer Lingus’s operations.
The new building also won a construction award at the Structural Steel Awards earlier in the week. |
