| News Archive | 27th May 2010 Bonus for East Midlands as Jet2 increases planes from next Autumn Jet2.com, the rapidly growing low-cost airline yesterday announced five new routes and said it would base a second aircraft at East Midlands Airport. Another 150 new jobs will be created, in addition to the 250 posts that the Leeds-based carrier has already brought to the Castle Donington airport.The new destinations will be available for the summer timetable in 2011, and will extend its routes from the East Midlands to 14. Recruitment will commence Autumn 2010, and will consist of jobs across the board, including ground staff, flight attendants and pilots. The airport hope to double the number of passengers to 300,000 per annum. Mr Doubtfire, speaking on behalf of Jet2 said that the inaugural flight to Paphos on a Boeing 757 was 90% full. He also commented that East Midlands Airport was in a superb location, surrounded by three major cities which are all connected by rail and motorway. The airline also operates services to Corfu, Heraklion in Greece, Dalaman in Turkey, Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt, and Tenerife and Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, as well as Chambery, in the French Alps and Geneva in Switzerland. The new destinations are Alicante in Spain, Palma in Majorca, Faro in Portugal, the Greek island of Rhodes, and Bodrum, in Turkey. Mr Doubtfire said the airline was already looking to grow its services again, in 2012. Rival low-cost airline EasyJet ceased to fly out of East Midlands earlier this year. |
