Update on Tram Service at Edinburgh Airport.
The first stages of the new tram system at Edinburgh Airport will arrive next year with a test taking place on a one-mile stretch between Gogar and Edinburgh Airport. The remaining 26 trams for Edinburgh will be delivered in batches from Spain, as they are built.
The project is currently running at 9 months behind schedule.Problems have included work on a major water main that runs through the site ,and delays on plans for a new railway station at Gogar. The Gogar Rail station project includes the ceation of a new station on the Edinburgh to Fife railway lines in the area. This would be located adjacent to a new stop on the Edinburgh Tram network for onward passenger transfer to Edinburgh Airport. The delays could possibly mean that the tram network would not be fully operational until spring 2012. Last month saw a report suggesting that a similar facility could be introduced at Liverpool Airport.
Whilst governments are tasked with making more use of public transport the fact still remains that travellers much prefer to use their cars to transport heavy cases instead of ligging through train stations especially with children in tow. If you are looking for cheap Edinburgh airport parking we recommend you book with an off airport car park who will drop you right outside the terminal or if staying over in the capital a Edinburgh airport hotel parking package. |
