Gatwick to get £1billion make-over
London Gatwick Airport is set for a £1billion revamp by its new owners GIP (Global Infrastructure Partners) who bought the airport back in 2009 when a commission ordered BAA to sell the airport after it deemed they had a monopolisation of UK airports.
The first and most immediate change is the plan to drop “London” from the airport’s name along with improving every aspect of the airport.
The areas of the airport which are to be improved are a new inter-terminal shuttle service, an extension to the North Terminal, which will provide travellers with additional self-service systems and a speed up security checks. Also set for improvement in the future are areas of the South Terminal, the airport’s luggage conveyors and an upgrade to the entrance of the airport.
Gatwick Chief Executive Officer Stewart Wingate stated that Gatwick had long been the airport of choice in London and the planned improvements would ensure that Gatwick airport goes from strength to strength.
Parking at Gatwick can be particularly expensive due to supply and demand at peak periods and early booking is always recommended to obtain the best savings. |
