Forecourt area reopened at Glasgow airport
Glasgow airport has reopened its inner forecourt to public transport vehicles following a £2m project to install 300 security bollards in front of the terminal.
The area has been closed to all vehicles since the terrorist attack on the airport in June 2007.
Buses and Renfrewshire Council-licensed taxis now have access to the inner forecourt, a development which will support Glasgow airport's plans to boost the ratio of passengers using public transport from 11% to 15% by 2012.
Amanda McMillan, managing director of the airport, said: 'The reopening of the inner forecourt, following our £2m security investment, is a return to normal for Glasgow airport.
'It will deliver better customer service and provide more transport choice for passengers. It is vital that we continue to reduce congestion and promote public transport as a way of reducing our surface transport emissions and improving air quality.'
The airport's ambition to boost use of public transport will be aided by the opening of a new rail link, which is set to be operational by 2013.
