Tesco to open at Glasgow Airport.
Glasgow International has been chosen as the first Airport to host a Tesco store site, showing an interest in opening outlets at transport sites.
The UK's largest retailer is set to open a new Tesco Express outlet at the base later this year and will provide provisions for those people travelling or just visiting the Airport, on both business and leisure trips, as well as airport staff.
Dairy products, ready meals, sandwiches, snacks and drinks will be available from the store, which will initially open during the first and last flight of the day, but might eventually open 24 hours. Apart fom passengers travelling through the airport, the new outlet will also be aimed at the 1200 strong workforce, who might wish to do their grocery shopping as they leave work.
Managerss Amanda McMillan said that she was very proud that Tesco were going to have a store at the Airport , and that it was good news for both passengers and and the supermarket.
Tesco will occupy a unit next to domestic arrivals, which was built as part of the Skyhub two years ago, and will enhance the area giving more choice to both customers and staff.
Tony McElroy, Tesco's corporate affairs manager, said the company was 'delighted' to be making the investment and creating twenty additional jobs. He added that they would also be carefully monitoring customer feedback, with a view to opening stores at other airports in the future.
That's what I call a cornering the market.
