Link from Leeds Bradford to gatwick hailed has a great success
Flybe which introduced this service between London and the capital are delighted with the first years figures.
with over 60,000 passengers using this route.Leeds in particular is a strong financial centre and the gateway to Yorkshire and traffic flows chave been good each way.The route was established when BMI baby cut its route to Heathrow and Flybe could not be more pleased.
Further good news for Leeds Bradford is that it is not one of the airports to be affected by the winter cost cutting programme annouced by Ryanair who are looking to reduce capacity from UK airports by a massive 16%. Given this is one of the few airlines making a profit it does not bode well for the UK as a whole.
Michael O'leary the colourful Chief Executive of Ryanair who has never been shy about pointing the finger states that the high airline duty payable in the UK was one of the major reasons and unless this was addressed the company would continue to look at establising more hubs abroad and service Uk customers from these bases.
