Greener Practices Manchester Airport is to host a climate change summit next month, bringing together 200 of the region's top business leaders in a bid to encourage greener practices. The third annual North West Prince's Summit on Climate Change takes place on May 1, and is part of a national day of events to promote environmental sustainability. It will feature a combination of practice-sharing initiatives and roundtable discussions about the most effective ways of reversing global warming. Keynote speakers will include professor Mohan Munasinghe, of the Sustainable Consumption Institute at Manchester University, and Julia Hailes MBE, author of The Green Consumer Guide. "Taking action on climate change has never been more important," commented Raksha Pattni, Regional Director of Business in the Community North West. "We must take a long term view... to push this agenda forward in the region." The aviation sector is believed to be responsible for about three per cent of global CO2 emissions – a fraction of the amount contributed by the automobile industry.
