Education Centre at Manchester Airpoprt

The Education Centre which is based in the Aviation Viewing Park at Manchester Airport is a wonderful way of teaching children and older student groups, the workings of an aircraft and the whole flying package.

The "classroom " centre is based in the body of a decommissioned Monarch Airlines DC10 Aircraft.

The hold has been transformed into a modern education centre with all the latest gadgets and technology. There is a mock up flight deck with seating, and audio-visual kit, where children of all ages can experience a fun way of learning.

The facility is very popular with schools and fully trained guides are on hand to instruct pupils and explain the ins and outs of the aviation industry. It has a very realistic feel, and visitors actually feel that they are aboard an aircraft.

The Education Centre also has old photographs and model airplanes on display .

School visits from reception classes up to year nine year olds last approximately 2 hours, and cost £6 per child.

Children may sit in the "Captains" seat and participate in role play, helping them understand what cabin crew do and how the Air traffic Control system operates.

They may also get the chance to view Concorde, and other notable aircraft, and view landings and take-offs from dedicated viewing points

School and college visits for Year 10 and GCSE and A level students are catered for on a more advanced level.

They can listen to presentations on many topics including passenger handling, Manchester Airport as a business, customer service, catering and health and safety.

Again, the visit may include a viewing of Concorde and a tour around the Viewing Park.

The cost per student is £7, and if required a guide can hired for a fee of £25, who will provide an hour long tour of the Terminal.
