Heathrow Airport - Information
London Heathrow is the busiest airport in the UK with over 68 million passengers passing through its 5 terminals each year. On the world stage Heathrow, is third behind Atlanta and O'hare in the USA, with Tokyo not far away in fourth. Heathrow still remains at number 1 for International passengers, being the premier airport connecting the West to the East.
Heathrow is owned by the Spanish company Ferrovial under the BAA banner, in additon to Heathrow, BAA own Stansted, Luton, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports with Gatwick up for sale to satisfy the monolopies commission.
Apart from being the busiest UK airport, Heathrow is also the largest approaching 5 square miles incorporating five terminals and 2 runways. Terminal 5 was opened in March 2008 by the Queen to a storm of protest, following technological breakdowns, luggage problems and badly trained staff resulting in scores of flights to be cancelled. Hardly the press coverage envisage by BAA which did little for our International reputation and BAA have a pr mountain to climb.
Following months of speculation BAA were finally given the go ahead for a third runway, which they deemed essential for Heathrow to improve efficency and increase passenger numbers and most importantly cargo traffic. For more inforamtion on Heathrow terminals
