Liverpool Airport Information

Travelling to Liverpool Airport

Liverpool John-Lennon Airport is located seven miles south-east of Liverpool, in Merseyside. There is no direct train service and connection to the airport requires a further transfer onto a bus. Travel by car is by far the easiest method of getting to the airport.

By Car

The A561 is a very busy dual carriageway from which you enter the airport. This road is also the main link to the nearby industrial estate which attracts large volumes of traffic. The turn offs to the industrial site are controlled by numerous traffic lights which only adds to the congestion. If you need to arrive at the airport between 0700 and 0930 and 1600 and 1830, please add at least 30 minutes to your journey time.

Below are the directions to the airport, however, we recommend that you use a AA or RAC route planner for up to date information.

Travelling from the North / North-East

M6 southbound to junction 21A with M62. Follow M62 West to junction 6 onto the A5300 to the A561 and follow signs to the Airport, which is situated off Speke Hall Avenue.

Travelling from the South / East

M6 northbound to junction 20 with M56. Follow M56 to junction 12 onto A557/A562 dual carriageway via Runcorn Bridge to merge with A561. Follow signs to the Airport, situated off Speke Hall Avenue.

Travelling from the Wirral / North Wales

Passengers travelling from Wirral may find it more convenient at peak times to use the M53 and then the M56 (as instructions from the South / East) rather than a route through the City Centre of Liverpool via the Mersey Tunnels. Passengers travelling from North Wales should join the A55 to connect with the M56 eastbound, and then follow instructions as from the East.
