Edinburgh stands on the firth of forth in the heart of the Lothians.

EDINBURGH CASTLE
This magnificent Castle is Edinburgh’s top tourist attraction known throughout the world. The Castle rock has been inhabited since 800 BC and the great Castle which grew upon it has become a symbol of Scotland’s nationhood. Guided tours are available.
Visit the Honours of the Kingdom exhibition showing the Scottish Crown Jewels and The Stone of Destiny. Understandably the top attraction in Scotland and you do not need to be a history fanatic to enjoy the castle.
Wander around the battlements, watch the “One O’Clock Gun” being fired also there is the huge “Mons Meg” a massive cannon from the 15th century, swords and other weapons galore.
There are reminders scratched on the walls of the dungeons from the days when the castle was a prison for the Frenchmen captured during the Napoleonic wars.
And if you are in Edinburgh during the Festival in August then the world famous military tattoo on the castle esplanade in the evening is an exciting affair .
Edinburgh Zoo
The Zoo is ten minutes from the city centre and is another of Scotland’s top visits. The Zoo’s famous collection of Penguins are a must see when they parade out to be fed . There are over a 1000 animals to see including tigers, polar bears and lions.
Greyfriar’s Bobby
Made famous by the fifties film which is soon to be given a makeover by Steven Spielberg .The statue to the faithful dog that remained by its master’s grave is across the road from the Museum of Scotland including that grave which Bobby would not leave.

The Royal Museum has a wide range of interactive exhibits which children love and next door is the Museum of Scotland which devotes itself to Scottish heritage through the ages
Scottish Whiskey Centre
At the top of the Royal Mile, the Scotch Whisky Centre is a literally a barrel of fun where you board an electrically driven whisky barrel-car to take you through over 300 years of making whisky in Scotland. Even better at the end all the adults get a free “dram” of whisky (Walt Disney can’t match that!) and a helium balloon and soft drinks for children. T

Exotic butterflies and tropical birds flying free, but you can handle snakes and spiders and see poisonous frogs and scorpions.
